In-Flight View of Helicopter Sponson and External Fuel Tank Over Vietnamese Coastal Jungle
Viewed from inside the aircraft, this photograph captures a helicopter's stub-wing fuel tank against a backdrop of dense Vietnamese jungle and coastline. Auxiliary sponson tanks like this one extended the range of Air Force rescue helicopters such as the HH-3E "Jolly Green Giant," enabling long overwater and overland search-and-rescue missions during the Vietnam War.
