Close-Up of A-1 Skyraider Propeller, Radial Engine, and Cowl Flaps During Ground Maintenance

Close-Up of A-1 Skyraider Propeller, Radial Engine, and Cowl Flaps During Ground Maintenance

The business end of an A-1 Skyraider: its four-bladed propeller and 18-cylinder Wright R-3350 radial engine exposed for maintenance. This rugged powerplant gave the 'Spad' the reliability and heavy payload capacity that made it a mainstay of close air support and rescue escort missions throughout the Vietnam War, long after most other propeller-driven combat aircraft had been retired.
