A fully armed Douglas A-1 Skyraider banks hard in flight, its wings loaded with rocket pods, bombs, and a napalm canister — a typical strike configuration during the Vietnam War. Skyraiders of the U.S. Air Force and Vietnamese Air Force flew thousands of close air support and 'Sandy' rescue-escort sorties, prized for their ability to loiter over the battlefield and absorb battle damage.
