Ground Crewman Inspecting A-1 Skyraider Wing on Flight Line, Southeast Asia, Vietnam War Era
A U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraider -- affectionately nicknamed the "Spad" -- sits on a rain-slicked flight line ramp in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. A ground crewman inspects the aircraft's raised wing while the pilot prepares in the cockpit. Rugged and heavily armed, the propeller-driven Skyraider served with distinction flying close air support and rescue escort missions for Air Commando and Special Operations units throughout the conflict.
