A Douglas A-1 Skyraider, nicknamed the "Spad" by its crews, banks through towering tropical cumulus clouds over Southeast Asia. Though slower and older than the jets that succeeded it, the rugged, propeller-driven Skyraider carried a heavy ordnance load and became legendary for close air support and search-and-rescue escort missions during the Vietnam War.
