Side Gun Ports and Aft Fuselage of a Black-Painted Gunship Aircraft, Vietnam War Era
A close view of the aft fuselage gun ports on a matte-black Vietnam-era U.S. Air Force gunship. Side-firing weapons like these, mounted on converted C-119 'Flying Boxcar' transports, allowed gunship crews to fly a pylon turn around a target and deliver sustained, precise fire in support of ground troops during night interdiction and close air support missions of the Vietnam War.
