A U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraider rolls out on the runway, its drag chute streaming behind, after a combat sortie during the Vietnam War. Nicknamed the "Spad" by its crews, the rugged, propeller-driven Skyraider carried heavy bomb and rocket loads and provided close air support and rescue escort ("Sandy") missions for downed airmen throughout Southeast Asia.
