USAF A-1 Skyraider "TT-779" in Formation Over a Vietnamese River Delta at Dusk
A U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraider, tail-coded "TT-779," banks over a river delta in South Vietnam in fading light, photographed from the wing of a companion aircraft. The rugged, propeller-driven Skyraider — nicknamed "Spad" by its crews — carried heavy ordnance loads at low speed and long loiter times, making it invaluable for close air support and for escorting search-and-rescue helicopters ("Sandy" missions) into contested territory throughout the Vietnam War.
