A-1 Skyraider in Flight Over Coastal Highlands, South Vietnam
A U.S. Air Force A-1 Skyraider cruises low over the forested coastal mountains of South Vietnam in this air-to-air photograph taken from a companion aircraft. The rugged, propeller-driven Skyraider - nicknamed the 'Spad' - remained a mainstay of close air support and search-and-rescue escort throughout the Vietnam War, prized for its long loiter time and heavy ordnance capacity long after jet aircraft entered service.
