Memorial Display: SPAD/Sandy/Firefly Squadron Patches with A-1 Skyraider "The Proud American" Photograph
A tribute display featuring three embroidered patches — SPAD, Sandy, and Firefly — call signs and nicknames associated with the Douglas A-1 Skyraider during the Vietnam War. Beneath them hangs a photograph of an A-1 Skyraider named "The Proud American," its distinctive four-bladed propeller and radial engine cowling filling the frame. "Sandy" pilots flew rescue escort for downed airmen, while "Firefly" A-1s dropped flares to illuminate night operations — missions that made the piston-engine Skyraider indispensable long after jets came to dominate the skies.
