Douglas A-1 Skyraider in Flight Against Cumulus Clouds, Vietnam War Era
A Douglas A-1 Skyraider banks against a wall of tropical cumulus clouds during the Vietnam War. Despite being a propeller-driven design from the late 1940s, the rugged, heavily armed Skyraider proved indispensable in Southeast Asia, flying close air support and "Sandy" rescue-escort missions to protect downed airmen, often outlasting jets in its ability to loiter over the battlefield.
