A-1 Skyraider Taxiing Past Revetments Marked "Home of the Spads," Vietnam-Era Airbase
An A-1 Skyraider taxis past hardened revetments marked "Home of the Spads," a nickname affectionately given to the rugged propeller-driven attack aircraft by the Air Commandos who flew them. Revetments like these, built from corrugated steel and earth, protected aircraft from rocket and mortar fire at forward airbases throughout the Vietnam War. Project: 218933
