A-1 Skyraider Airborne Over a Vietnam Highlands Airfield
A Douglas A-1 Skyraider climbs out over a Vietnam highlands airfield during the Vietnam War. Rugged and heavily armed, the propeller-driven Skyraider served the U.S. Air Force and Vietnamese Air Force as a mainstay close-air-support and combat rescue escort ("Sandy") aircraft throughout the conflict, valued for its long loiter time and heavy ordnance load. A C-130 Hercules transport and support facilities are visible on the ramp below, with the Central Highlands rising in the background. Project: 218930
