This detail view shows the tail rotor gearbox and driveshaft of a Sikorsky H-34 (CH-34) Choctaw helicopter. Power from the main engine was transmitted along the length of the tail boom to this gearbox, which redirected drive to the tail rotor, counteracting the torque of the main rotor and allowing the pilot to control heading.
