An airman takes brief shelter beneath the wing of an A-1 Skyraider during a sudden monsoon downpour at a Southeast Asian airbase. Sudden, torrential rain was a routine hazard of flight operations in Vietnam, often striking with little warning and turning ramps and taxiways into sheets of water. Ground and aircrew alike had to continue their duties through such storms, a small but telling detail of the physical conditions under which Air Commando and attack squadron personnel served.
