This declassified Mission Narrative Report documents a dramatic combat rescue near Kham Duc, South Vietnam, on 3 December 1968. After an Army OV-1 Mohawk (call sign "Redeye 22") was shot down, A-1 Skyraiders ("Spad 11" and "Spad 12") suppressed the area and marked it with smoke while two HH-3E "Jolly Green" rescue helicopters descended into a steep, jungle-choked ravine under low clouds to hoist both survivors to safety, narrowly avoiding a nearby enemy anti-aircraft gun position.
