SAR Database Record: Misty 40 F-100F Shootdown and Rescue, 19 January 1970
A search-and-rescue database record documents the 19 January 1970 shootdown of a "Misty" F-100F fast forward air control jet near Ban Talan, hit by 23mm anti-aircraft fire. The crew flew their damaged aircraft out over the ocean before ejecting, and both airmen, Daniel F. Brown and Ernest L. Farnsworth, were successfully rescued by Air Force pararescue crews flying HH-43 and HH-3E "Jolly Green" helicopters. Records like this preserve the detailed history of the combat search-and-rescue missions that saved downed American aircrews throughout the Vietnam War. Project: 218871
