Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, restored and marked as 'HUN HUNTER XVI'. Among the heaviest and most rugged single-engine fighters of the Second World War, the P-47 combined a 2,000-horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine with a turbosupercharger buried in the rear fuselage, giving it exceptional high-altitude performance and the ability to absorb battle damage. More than 15,600 were built. 'Hun Hunter' was among the nose-art names carried by Thunderbolt pilots flying escort and ground-attack missions over Europe in 1944-45.
