Two A-1 Skyraider Attack Aircraft Taxiing, Rear View

Two Douglas A-1 Skyraider attack aircraft, affectionately nicknamed "Spads" by their crews, taxi out for a mission during the Vietnam War era. Rugged and heavily armed, the propeller-driven Skyraider remained in U.S. Air Force service into the early 1970s for close air support and rescue escort duties long after most piston-engine combat aircraft had been retired in favor of jets.
