Douglas A-1 Skyraiders on the Ramp at Da Nang Air Base, 1969

Douglas A-1 Skyraiders — nicknamed 'Spads' — sit parked on the flight line at Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, in 1969. Rugged and heavily armed, the propeller-driven Skyraider remained a mainstay of close air support and search-and-rescue escort missions throughout the Vietnam War, long after jets had replaced most other propeller combat aircraft.
