"Supplies Land on Kwajalein" - U.S. Navy Official Photograph 128-5, Marshall Islands Campaign, 1944
"Supplies Land on Kwajalein" - This official U.S. Navy photograph documents the resupply of American forces on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands during the February 1944 invasion, part of Operation Flintlock. Amphibious tractors and landing craft ferry troops and cargo across the lagoon to a beachhead where a devastated coconut grove, stripped bare by intense pre-invasion naval and aerial bombardment, testifies to the scale of firepower directed at Japanese defenses. The Kwajalein operation marked a major step in the U.S. Central Pacific offensive, opening the way for further advances toward the Mariana Islands. Project: 218719
