Boeing B-29/B-50 Superfortress-Type Bomber Taxiing on Airfield Ramp, Nose Number 008

A four-engine Boeing Superfortress-type heavy bomber taxis across an air base ramp in this vintage photograph. Bearing the tall single tail and streamlined fuselage of the B-29/B-50 lineage, aircraft such as this formed the backbone of American strategic bombing capability from the closing months of World War II through the Korean War era. Though preserved here in a collection devoted to WWII-era aviation, the bare-metal finish and airfield infrastructure suggest this image dates to the immediate postwar years, when these iconic bombers continued active service with the newly formed United States Air Force.
