The Snapshots in Time Collection
Vietnamese Pavilion and Military Tent Encampment Along a Delta Waterway, June 1971
This 1971 snapshot captures a traditional Vietnamese pavilion with a distinctive upturned tiled roof, built on stilts above a river channel and linked to shore by a wooden footbridge. A U.S. military canvas tent pitched nearby, along with coils of perimeter wire on the bank, reflects the everyday overlap of local architecture and American field encampments during the Vietnam War. A photo-lab date code reading 'JUN 71' places the image firmly within the war's later years, when U.S. forces were consolidating and gradually withdrawing from the countryside. Project: 218683
