Bridge Demolished by Retreating German Forces, Brest, France
This U.S. Army Signal Corps photograph, captioned 'Nazi's Blow Bridge, Brest, Fr.,' documents a bridge deliberately demolished by retreating German forces during the Battle of Brest in the late summer of 1944. As part of their scorched-earth defense of this strategic Breton port, German forces systematically destroyed bridges, harbor facilities, and other infrastructure to slow the Allied advance and deny use of the port.
