Wrecked Waco CG-4A Glider Entangled in Downed Power Lines, Bastogne, Belgium, Winter 1944-45

A wrecked Waco CG-4A glider lies tangled in downed power lines in a snow-covered field near Bastogne, Belgium, in the aftermath of the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944-January 1945. During the siege of Bastogne, gliders like this one flew in ammunition, medical supplies, and surgical teams to the surrounded 101st Airborne Division as part of resupply missions such as Operation Repulse. Poor weather, icy terrain, and enemy fire made glider landings hazardous, and wreckage of this kind remained scattered across the Ardennes countryside for weeks after the siege was broken.
