Identification Note and Group Photograph: Generals Lee, Pratt, McAuliffe and Colonel Sink, 101st Airborne Division, Stateside Training

This period photograph and its handwritten identification note commemorate four pivotal figures in 101st Airborne Division history: General William C. Lee, founder of the U.S. Airborne and known as its 'father'; General Don F. Pratt, the first American general killed in World War II, lost in a glider crash on D-Day; Colonel Robert Sink, commander of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment; and General Anthony McAuliffe, later famed for his defiant reply at Bastogne. The photograph itself captures soldiers gathered informally during stateside training, prior to deployment overseas. Project: 218668
