American occupation troops oversee the movement of Okinawan civilians along a coastal road during or shortly after the Battle of Okinawa, 1945. Displaced islanders, carrying salvaged belongings on traditional shoulder poles, were often relocated to camps away from the fighting as U.S. forces secured the island. Project: 218616
