U.S. Coast Artillery Seacoast Mortar, Manila Bay Harbor Defenses, Philippines
A heavy seacoast mortar, part of the fixed harbor defense batteries guarding Manila Bay, sits mounted on its iron carriage within a fortified gun position. Mortars of this type, capable of high-angle plunging fire against enemy warships, were installed at Corregidor and other harbor forts by the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps in the early 20th century.
