U.S. Marines Posed with Mounted Bullfighter at Plaza de Toros Entrance, Mexico, c. 1898-1910
U.S. Marines in full dress uniform, complete with spiked ceremonial helmets, pose beside a mounted Mexican bullfighter beneath the timber grandstand of a bullring during a shore-liberty visit in the early 1900s. Such informal encounters between American servicemen and local performers were common highlights of port calls during the Old Navy era, when U.S. warships regularly visited Mexican and Central American harbors.
