The Second Pair of Banderillas — Enlarged Detail, USS Columbia Album, c. 1898-1910s
A banderillero has just placed a second pair of barbed banderillas in the bull's shoulders, a stage of the corrida meant to further prepare the animal before the matador's final act with the muleta. This photograph, taken by an American sailor on liberty, is one of several images in the USS Columbia album documenting an afternoon spent at a bullring in a foreign port during the early 1900s.
