This photograph, preserved in a personal USS Columbia album, shows the protected cruiser at anchor in a mountain-ringed harbor during one of her many cruises around the turn of the twentieth century. Commissioned in 1894 and renowned for her speed, USS Columbia served in the Spanish-American War and undertook extensive training and goodwill deployments in the decades that followed.
