Sailors pause for a photograph at the ship's scuttlebutt, a common gathering spot for crewmen aboard USS Columbia. Named for the cask (or later, fountain) from which sailors drew drinking water, the scuttlebutt became synonymous with informal conversation and shipboard gossip, a tradition still referenced in naval slang today.
