Boeing C-97/KC-97 U.S. Air Force Transport on Airfield Ramp
This vintage snapshot from the Glenn Haidet photo collection captures a Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter (or KC-97 Stratotanker) parked on a U.S. Air Force flightline. Recognizable by its distinctive double-bubble fuselage and high-visibility orange nose and tail markings, this workhorse transport served the Air Force's global airlift and aerial refueling missions throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Personal photographs like this one offer a ground-level view of Cold War-era Air Force operations as experienced by the servicemembers who lived them. Project: 218590
