Tail Section of USAF Boeing B-50/WB-50 Superfortress, Serial 22625, High-Visibility Markings
This photograph shows the tail of a USAF Boeing B-50/WB-50 Superfortress, serial 22625, marked with high-visibility International Orange trim characteristic of Air Weather Service reconnaissance aircraft during the 1950s. These modified Superfortresses flew hazardous weather-tracking missions, including storm and hurricane penetration, and their bright markings aided search-and-rescue crews in the event of a ditching or crash.
