This tintype portrait of two mustached men in period dress dates to the latter decades of the 19th century, predating the World War II material found elsewhere in this collection. Tintypes were an affordable and popular photographic format from the 1860s through the 1890s, often produced by itinerant or studio photographers using a direct-positive process on a thin sheet of metal.
