This photograph shows a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-97/KC-97 Stratofreighter, serial 22625, parked on an airfield ramp. Developed from the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser airliner and sharing its wing and engine design with the B-29/B-50 bomber family, the C-97 series served as a heavy transport and, as the KC-97 tanker, provided vital aerial refueling support to Strategic Air Command's bomber fleet throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
