USAT Republic in Harbor, U.S. Army Transport Ship, Occupied Japan Era
This photograph depicts the USAT Republic, a U.S. Army Transport vessel used to ferry American servicemen to and from Japan during the post-World War II Occupation. Originally built as a civilian ocean liner, the ship was converted for military troop transport duty, a common practice for moving large numbers of personnel across the Pacific during this era.
