U.S. Army Cargo Trucks Unloading Supplies at Railhead, German Depot, Postwar Occupation Period
U.S. Army cargo trucks receive freight at a depot railhead in occupied Germany, circa 1945-1949. GMC CCKW 2½-ton 'Deuce and a Half' trucks, the workhorse of American military transport, line up beside a boxcar as crated supplies are transferred from rail to road. Scenes such as this were repeated daily at Quartermaster and Transportation Corps depots throughout the American Zone as the U.S. Army sustained its postwar occupation forces and supported the logistics of reconstruction.
