This photograph captures a stick of parachute-retarded fragmentation bombs, or 'parafrags,' descending toward a target during a low-altitude attack by the 312th Bombardment Group. These small parachute-equipped bombs allowed attacking B-25 Mitchells to strike airfields and troop positions from treetop height while giving the aircraft time to clear the blast area before detonation, a signature tactic of Fifth Air Force operations in the Pacific.
