Aerial View of Sepik River Native Village Under Attack, New Guinea
Concentric ripples spread across the Sepik River as this native village, its stilt houses built along the bank, comes under aerial attack. Fifth Air Force units operating from Gusap in the Ramu Valley, including the 312th Bombardment Group, occasionally struck villages suspected of assisting Japanese forces, a difficult and controversial dimension of the New Guinea air campaign.
