Aerial View of Bomb-Damaged Coconut Plantation, Hansa Bay, New Guinea
This aerial photograph shows a coconut plantation at Hansa Bay, New Guinea, stripped bare by repeated Allied bombing and strafing runs. The Fifth Air Force, including the 312th Bombardment Group, targeted Japanese positions along this stretch of coast in 1944 to disrupt enemy supply lines and troop concentrations ahead of the Allied advance toward Hollandia and beyond.
