Album Page: Bomb Crater and Wrecked Aircraft at Wom Point, Boiken, New Guinea (Frame 72-0-39)
This page from a wartime photo album preserves an aerial reconnaissance photograph, labeled 'Wom Pt. Boiken,' documenting bomb damage at a Japanese airfield near Wewak, New Guinea. A large bomb crater and the wreckage of destroyed enemy aircraft are visible scattered across the field. Airfields in the Wewak area were repeatedly targeted by U.S. Fifth Air Force units, including the 312th Bomb Group, during the 1943-1944 New Guinea campaign, as Allied forces worked to neutralize Japanese air power in the region.
