Photographed from roughly 6,000 feet, it shows bomb craters scarring the jungle, an active explosion, and camouflaged Japanese vehicles and installations identified by the veteran's handwritten notes. Wewak was a principal target of the U.S. Fifth Air Force's 1943-1944 campaign, which devastated Japanese air power in New Guinea through repeated low- and medium-altitude strikes. Project: 218561
