Vertical Aerial View of Wewak Airfield Under Attack, New Guinea
Photographed from medium altitude during a bombing run over Wewak, New Guinea, this vertical aerial view shows bomb bursts erupting at the top of the frame while a scattered field of wrecked Japanese aircraft, the same 'boneyard' seen in companion ground-view photographs, appears as tiny white marks along the lower edge. Such vertical strike photography allowed Fifth Air Force intelligence officers to assess bombing accuracy and damage to Japanese installations. Project: 218560
