Captioned 'American bombs falling near Jap hospital at Boram, Wewak, 4-11-44,' this photograph documents a Fifth Air Force strike on the Boram airfield complex near Wewak, New Guinea, on 11 April 1944. Wewak's cluster of airfields, including Boram, But, and Dagua, were sustained targets of Allied bombing throughout 1943-1944 as part of the campaign to neutralize Japanese air power in New Guinea, missions in which the 312th Bomb Group's B-25 Mitchells took part.
