The Snapshots in Time Collection
Album Page with Two Aerial Strike Photographs of Japanese Coastal Barge Attack
Preserved on the original album page, these two sequential strike photographs document a Fifth Air Force attack on Japanese coastal barges disguised with palm-frond camouflage. Small vessels like these carried troops and supplies between island garrisons once larger convoys became too vulnerable to Allied airpower. Photographs such as these, taken from attacking aircraft including B-25 Mitchells of units like the 312th Bomb Group, were prized keepsakes brought home by aircrew after the war. Project: 218559
