This wartime aerial photograph, from the archive of the 312th Bombardment Group, depicts the aftermath of an anti-shipping strike along a Pacific coastline. A small Japanese coastal vessel, camouflaged with foliage, lies wrecked in the shallows near shore, while a U.S. Navy vessel steams offshore and smoke rises from the beach. The 312th Bomb Group, flying A-20 Havoc and A-26 Invader light bombers, conducted numerous low-level strikes against enemy shipping and coastal targets during the New Guinea and Philippines campaigns of 1943–1945, disrupting Japanese resupply efforts to isolated garrisons.
