Aerial Strike Photograph of Coastal Target Under Bombardment, Pacific Theater, WWII
This wartime aerial photograph captures the moment after an air attack on a coastal installation somewhere in the Pacific theater, with smoke still rising from struck buildings along the shoreline. Photographs like this were taken by strike or reconnaissance cameras aboard light and medium bombers such as those flown by the 312th Bombardment Group, whose A-20 and A-26 aircraft conducted low-level attacks against Japanese shipping and shore installations throughout New Guinea and the Philippines.
