Aerial Strike/Reconnaissance Photograph of Coconut Plantation Road, Southwest Pacific Theater

This aerial photograph, likely taken during a low-level attack sortie, looks down on a coconut plantation road in the Southwest Pacific theater. A convoy of vehicles is visible traveling the narrow dirt track cut through the palm groves -- exactly the kind of concealed supply route that light bombardment units such as the 312th Bombardment Group targeted with A-20 Havoc attack aircraft. The bright flash near the palm canopy may record a strike in progress. Photographs like this one, often marked with a reconnaissance or mission number, were used both to document results and to plan future interdiction raids against Japanese logistics hidden beneath the jungle canopy.
