This caption card from a 579th Bomb Squadron veteran's photo album records the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Myron Keilman by Brigadier General Leon W. Johnson on 27 May 1944. The note recalls that Johnson himself had earned the Medal of Honor less than a year earlier for leading the low-level bombing raid on the Ploesti oil fields in Romania - Operation Tidal Wave, August 1943 - one of the most costly and daring air raids of the war.
